Civil Engineering PhD Students Receive Support from TÜBİTAK 2250 Performance Program

Gülşah Sağbaş and Ramin Sheikhi Garjan, PhD students from the Civil Engineering Department at Özyeğin University, have been awarded grant support under the 2025 First Term of the TÜBİTAK 2250 – Graduate Scholarships Performance Program. Sağbaş and Garjan completed the project entitled “Field Observations for Assessing the Performance and Damage State of Industrial Structures Affected by the February 6, 2023 Kahramanmaraş-Pazarcık (Mw=7.7) and Elbistan (Mw=7.6) Earthquakes” under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Derya Deniz from the Department of Civil Engineering, supported by the TÜBİTAK 1002-C Rapid Support Program for Field Studies Focused on Natural Disasters. Our students actively represent Özyeğin University during post-earthquake field investigations.

The research team was previously awarded support during the second term of 2022 within the scope of the TÜBİTAK ARDEB 3501 – Career Development Program for their work on the project titled “Multi-Hazard Impact and Mitigation Decision Models for Industrial Structures.” Following the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, the team and Nisa Seyra Ayhan, a master’s student, conducted post-disaster business continuity assessments at the 6-month and 1-year marks. These studies will be used as data for the preparation of academic publications.
