“LiMETIME: LINEAR MODEL OF ELECTRIC TRAINS INCLUDING MOTOR EFFICIENCY”

Abstract:
To implement an optimization method that aims to increase energy efficiency, the definition of the vehicle model is crucial to calculate results that can be used in the real-world environment. Component behavior and environmental effects should be included to generate precise output from models. In literature works, authors directly focus on implementing the vehicle model with basic plant models. However, they did not consider the efficiency of the components in the calculation results of optimization methods. In this thesis, an optimization model including energy losses due to the efficiency of the e-machines is implemented to see the effect of component features. The LiMETIME is suitable for different-sized efficiency maps and is implemented using the Mixed Integer Linear Algorithm (MILP) approach. One of the strongest MILP based vehicle model approaches is implemented as the base of the LiMETIME. After that, the efficiency map of the e-machine and inverter is included on top of this. A 5x5 efficiency map is implemented with six different routes to demonstrate the vehicle's behavior. In reality, efficiency values vary between 72-95% for energy-efficient e-machines. Since the efficiency values are set as 100% in the literature, the total energy consumption values increased 21% on average in LiMETIME. Execution time is also increased because of the additional constraints and decision variables. The application time obtained in this study is between 8.46 and 90.71 times longer than in the literature study.
Bio:
Burhan Toruk completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in Konya. He graduated from KTO Karatay University, Department of Electrical-Electronics Engineering, in 2018. After graduation, he was accepted to Özyeğin University as a Teaching Assistant with a full scholarship in the same year. In 2019, he started working at FEV Türkiye as an Automotive Software Engineer. After three years, he was promoted to senior engineer. Currently, he is working on model-based automotive software development and its validation.
